The PS5 is just around the corner, it’s a proven fact. But that doesn’t mean Sony is abandoning its very popular PS4. Proof of this is that a firmware update for the latter has just arrived, with new features and changes. Some of which also concern the next-gen console from the Japanese manufacturer.
Sony has just announced the release of version 8.0 of the PS4 firmware.
Important update, the latter does not only improve the “stability” of the console. On the program, additions, deletions and modifications. Here is the detail of what is changing.
Party and Messages functions updates:
Party and Messages functionality are now “intermixed,” with a key interface change. Voice chats and message exchanges will now use the same groups of players in both apps. note that this new way of doing things will also apply to the PS5 when it is released.
New avatars:
Sony has added a whole selection of new shooting avatars from titles like Bloodborne, Journey, Ghost of Tsushima, God of War, The Last of Us Part II, The Last of Us Remastered, or Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End (the builder leaves hear that avatars from other games have also been added).
Mute all microphones from the Quick menu:
An option to “mute all microphones” has been added to the Quick menu.
Simplified parental control:
The elements “Communication with other players” and the “Viewing content created by other users“have been merged into a single parameter. This last, titled”Communication and user-created content“is intended to make things clearer for parents. Additionally, children can now send a request to use the communication features of a specific game to their parents. When they do, parents receive a notification. by e-mail and can then choose to activate or not the features related to communication and content sharing in a particular game.
Improved two-step verification:
Two-step verification now supports third-party authentication apps both when activating the flow and when logging in via two-step verification via PS4, mobile device and the web.
Removal of the creation of events and Private Community:
It is no longer possible to create events (or access events created by others) and Private Communities in the Community application of the PS4. The private communities created previously remain accessible, however.
Updates for the Remote Reading application on mobile and PC:
In parallel with the arrival of this update 8.0, the PS4 Distance Reading application (in other words the “Remote Play“) available on PC, MAC and mobile (iOS and Android) is also updated and changed its name. Until now called”Playback PS4 distance, “she now responds to the name of”PS distance reading“and becomes compatible with the PS5. Note that this feature must be activated from the menu of the PS5 to be used.
