Throughout all these years, Marvel Studios has signed all kinds of actors and actresses who have played characters and superheroes who have become icons of the industry. Many of them greatly appreciate their time in this study, but not all of them have had a happy ending.
During an interview with RadioTimesthe actor Ray Winstonewho played Dreykov in Black Widowsays that his experience within Marvel was “demoralizing,” stating that the studio asked him to change his acting style because he was too strong.
“It was fine until you have to do the reshoots. Then you find out that a few producers have gone down, and your performance is too much, it’s too strong… That’s how Marvel works. It can destroy your soul because you feel like you’re doing a great job. In I actually said, ‘They should recast because that was it for me.’ And you end up doing it again because they hire you to do it. If not, you end up in court. It’s like getting kicked in the balls.”
The actor revealed that he was about to leave the role at the last minute due to differences he had with the studio, but it was impossible. The reason? His contract prevented him from abandoning the role and due to legal issues he could not do anything, so he continued with his work.
It is not the first time that someone who has worked at Marvel Studios criticizes the studio. Actors of the stature of Christian Bale and Anthony Hopkins have criticized the franchise for, according to them, not having any kind of soul when it comes to acting, stating that they felt that their work was not enough. Luckily for the company, these reviews can be counted on the fingers of one hand and the vast majority are happy to have been part of a saga that has made cinema history.
