THQ Nordic has announced that it is working on an Alone in the Dark game for PS5, Xbox Series and PC. The screenwriter of Amnesia and Soma is writing and the design of the monsters has been entrusted to an associate of Guillermo Del Toro.
The rumor of an Alone in the Dark return was well founded. The survival horror forerunner celebrates its comeback with a trailer, pictures and some gameplay excerpts.
Le grand retour d’Alone in the Dark
Are you ready to reinvest the Derceto villa? It would be better, because this “new” Alone in the Dark will not be a completely new installment… Published by THQ Nordic, which now owns the license, the title is described as a revisit of Frédérick Raynal’s game. “Discover Derceto’s mansion in this AITD reboot, a true love letter to the ’90s horror classic” summarize the sheet steam.
The overall plot remains the same but has been reworked by Mikael Hedberg, the author of Amnesia and SOMA.
In the deep south of the United States, Emily Hartwood’s uncle disappeared in the 1920s. Accompanied by private detective Edward Carnby, she goes in search of him in the mansion of Derceto, a mental institution where… something is lurking. You will encounter strange residents, nightmarish kingdoms and dangerous monsters and uncover an evil conspiracy. At the confluence of reality, mystery and madness, the adventure that awaits risks eroding your certainties. Who will you trust, what will you believe and what will you do next?
The game was developed by Pieces Interactive (Magicka 2, Titan Quest: Atlantis…) with the help of Jason Kohnen for the music and Guy Davis for the character designs of the monsters. The latter worked with director Guillermo Del Toro Pacific Rim or Crimson Peak.
Some gameplay snippets
At the moment, THQ Nordic hasn’t dared to give a release date and we can understand why. The gameplay snippets below show a game in its pre-alpha version that is far from finished. We see that Alone in the Dark has definitely opted for a shoulder view, like the Resident Evil 2 remake.
