Berserk may have established itself in the pantheon of major manga, but it has never had the right to be an anime worthy of the name. That will change next year.
The Berserk manga continues irregularly despite the sudden death of its author a few years ago. The publication of the work officially continues under the supervision of Kouji Mori, his childhood friend to whom he confided the ending of the manga. However, readers need to be patient as Chapter 377 is not finished yet. The manga is on hiatus again and fans have no news about its return, but the Berserk The Black Swordsman anime had an important announcement to make.
Finally a Berserk anime worthy of the name?
This was a highly anticipated announcement within the community. Unlike many popular manga, Berserk has always had a complicated relationship with animation. The manga has certainly left its mark on many works, but ultimately it has never had the right to an adaptation that deserves the name and gets to the bottom of things. The previous films and series have never really moved beyond the manga’s most iconic and shocking story arc, while Guts’ adventure after this traumatic moment is just as interesting. That’s why around a hundred talented fans decided to form the Eclypse studio and take matters into their own hands with Berserk The Black Swordsman.
The goal: to create an unofficial anime that corresponds to the quality of an official production. The first images were mouth-watering, but we’ve finally been able to spot the first trailer for the project, and it’s clearly worthy of an official anime. We find the touch of the current adaptations, but animation and visual quality up to date. The entire community already agrees with Berserk The Black Swordsman, as they have been dreaming of such a project for years. However, you still have to wait a bit as the anime won’t be released until 2025.
Initially, Berserk The Black Swordsman will focus on the story arc “The Black Warrior,” the very first part of the manga, which spans from Chapter 1 to Chapter 8. However, the studio is looking further and has already expressed its desire to adapt everything that has never been shown in the long run to be seen on the screen today.
