The announcement that all Until Dawn fans have been waiting for is finally here. Sony has announced the release date for the remake of its popular horror and narrative game.
Until Dawn made a name for itself among PlayStation gamers and continues to make an impression almost a decade later. Of course, Sony intends to capitalize a little more on its horror-oriented narrative game. In the absence of a second part, the Japanese publisher will market a remaster later this year that will visibly overlap with the remake, entrusted to Ballistic Moon, and will then continue with a film entrusted to David F. Sandberg (Annabelle 2, Shazam), who continues to expand his cast. As the latest information suggested, PlayStation has announced the game’s release date with the added bonus of a comparison video to see the work of Ballistic Moon.
Finally a release date for Until Dawn
The date is set. Until Dawn returns on October 4, 2024 on PS5 and PC in a more beautiful setting that will make you shudder. A welcome dusting off, because if the game redefined an entire genre, it had aged particularly poorly in certain aspects. Ballistic Moon therefore worked to fix the main flaws of the original version. There will be no narrative changes, as the British studio makes it clear from the start that none of the events of Until Dawn have been changed. Instead, the successor team at Supermassive Games preferred to opt for a cinematic update. The goal is clear: to offer players a more intimate experience by placing more emphasis on visual storytelling.
This Until Dawn remake was rebuilt from start to finish on Unreal Engine 5. The characters, environments, objects, visual effects and animations were all reworked. Ballistic Moon wanted to take extra care with the lighting by taking advantage of the engine’s capabilities, and yes, that means ray tracing, here we go, which should ensure.” a more atmospheric and modern horror experience
Some new features in the program
The studio is also using Unreal Engine 5 to add more visual details. The characters’ injuries will be more prominent as their deaths are reworked for the occasion. If Ballistic Moon is committed to not changing the narrative, there will be some additions, especially in the prologue, which was actually in dire need of adjustment. The pacing should therefore be improved and Washington will have a little more screen time.
Some scenes are also being redesigned, and the studio wanted to further develop the context around the famous fateful joke, hoping that this would improve its emotional impact. Several collectibles have been added, including a whole new category of totems: hunger totems. Without giving further details, the studio states that it will provide a vision of a different genre and condense the world of Until Dawn. And what better way to see the work done than in a comparison video?
