Apex Legends players are getting their new year off to a magical start, as the Spellbound Collection event brings back the Control limited-time mode, along with a whole new set of cosmetic items to unlock.
The Spellbound collection will launch on January 10th across all platforms and end on January 24th. Along with all the magic-themed skins and return of control, private tournaments are also on the way, which is sure to be a big deal for influencers and event organizers.
Among the cosmetics, 24 Spellbound skins are available for a limited time for weapons and specific characters, including Mad Maggie, Mirage, Seer and more. To get these, you can buy them directly from the store, or get them from limited-time Spellbound packs while the event is going on.
If you manage to get all 24 decorations before the event ends, you’ll automatically unlock Seer’s new Showstopper heirloom, the final and most unique addition to this new event. If you don’t manage to get all 24, you still have a random chance to get an heirloom from the pack in the future.
There’s also a slew of new in-game changes and bug fixes that confuse things significantly. You can check it all out below!

Apex Legends Spellbound bug fixes
- Fixed Mirage Decoys not displaying shield regeneration effects when close to Wattson Pylon or in control or gunplay mode.
- Added 10 new Welcome Challenges to help new players learn Apex.
- New “Apex 101” badge rewards for completing all 10 Welcome Challenges.
- Changing characters in the shooting range now has smoother third-person transitions.
- Fixed a rare issue where the Mobile Respawn Beacon would sometimes spawn a Dropship outside of its boundaries.
- Fixed an issue with ability previews when entering a phase portal.
- Doors now always show as broken when only one melee attack away from being destroyed.
- Caustic Town Takeover loot jars now behave more reliably in control mode.
- Reduced VFX for Caustic’s gas flare.
- Fixed a rare client crash in the IMC Armory.
- Fixed crows in Bloodhound’s Niflheim Hundr skin to appear white more reliably.
- DirectX 12 beta: Added support for brightness slider in all display modes.
- DirectX 12 beta: Fixed crash with setting.mat_backbuffer_count “0” in videoconfig.txt setting. Note that Apex Legends running in DirectX 11 (DX11) requires the OS to use an additional buffer for compositing, which is not counted in mat_backbuffer_count. DX12 includes the required buffer in mat_backbuffer_count, so DX12 with “1” in fullscreen mode will have as low latency as DX11 with “0”.
- Fixed Crypto being able to inspect when using a drone to remove the HUD.
- Fixed an issue where the lobby tab would become unresponsive after changing the resolution on PC.
- Adjusted hold and click logic for controller players to view weapons while loading to improve responsiveness.
