The Batman, the latest film about the most popular dark knight in the DC Comics universe, hasn’t revealed all its secrets yet… A hidden scene has actually surfaced. And good news, it allows us to consider a wild card, to say the least.

A Joker scarier than ever

If Colin Farrell’s transformation (who portrays the Penguin) surprised many people, wait to see Barry Keoghan’s as the Joker. In fact, The Batman, the movie that had everyone agreeing and which has grossed more than $450 million, has unveiled a new scene just as expected.

Although we can see a proto-Joker played by Barry Keoghan after the film’s credits, it’s impossible to clearly distinguish the character. In this unreleased clip of Batman visiting the Joker in Arkham, it’s quite the opposite. Although the great bad is hidden behind armored prison glass, we can make out his appearance which is beyond frightening. The Joker from The Batman is completely disfigured as you can see if you watch the deleted clip from the film available above. His skull is bald, burned, and his lips are cut off, which elongates his smile and gives him a much creepier tone than what we’ve seen the character perform in previous film productions. We think of Tim Burton’s film (Batman from 1989), but also that of Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight from 2008), David Ayer (Suicide Squad from 2016) or even Todd Phillips (Joker from 2019).

A nod to Hannibal Lecter!

In this scene, Batman therefore asks the Joker for help in decoding messages from the Riddler and thus getting one step ahead of his opponent. Unfortunately for Batman, it’s a waste of time… The Joker prefers to laugh in his face. According to previous interviews, this Joker, played by Barry Keoghan (Dunkirk), is heavily inspired by Hannibal Lecter in the legendary film The Silence of the Lambs, but also by David Lynch’s The Elephant Man.

He has this congenital disease. He can never stop smiling. Mike and I talked about The Elephant Man because I love David Lynch. And I thought to myself, ‘Maybe there’s something to do. Let’s forget the story where he fell into a vat of chemicals (…). What if it was something that has touched him since birth and he has a congenital disease that is preventing him from smiling? Matt Reeves, director of The Batman
