Meteors are easily one of the most magical things you can find in Breath of the Wild, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom handles them even better.
No story spoilers, but very light game spoilers!
Back when Breath of the Wild first came out, there were so many things that kept me asking “What the hell is that?” and “Oh my God, did something fall from the sky?” The way meteors are found, let’s be honest, meteors are a pretty neat thing that can add some real wonder to the world. Meteors are back in Tears of the Kingdom, and they’re even more special: you can literally catch them out of thin air.
Players started noticing very early on that sometimes when they swooped down from Sky Island, a meteor would spawn near them, and they could actually catch a meteor as they fell. Apparently the game has been out in less than a week, so it’s not clear how easy it is for this to happen – but then it happened to me, and gosh, is this just one of the coolest things in the game. In most Case in point, you’re not actually doing anything while skydiving, you’re just falling with some style, so it really makes you feel like you’re experiencing a little bit of magic.
Several players have shared their own instances of catching stars while skydiving, and it does seem like a special little moment for everyone who experiences it. I literally gasp when it happens to me, and it’s one of those touches that really makes Nintendo feel like everything has been taken into account with this game.
There’s also plenty of special stuff to find in Kingdom Tears, like a new way for the developers to pay tribute to the late Satoru Iwata, or an easy way for you to share cool secrets and locations with your friends.
