More than a year after the announcement, the time has come: According to the developers, the biggest new map for PUBG to date is in the starting blocks. Deston, as it is officially called, is 8×8 kilometers in size, similar to Erangel and Miramar – but it is also much more densely built-up and should be visually and playfully diverse.
Shortly before the Release am 13. Juli the developers have now presented Deston in detail and revealed further details about the biggest update in 2022.
Speaking of 2022: Author Sören tells you in his column why PUBG is still an almost incomparable shooter these days.

All information about the new Map Deston
Deston is sort of a very large evolution of the smallest Map Haven at heart. Because on the new map fights in urban areas are in the foregroundalthough the Megastadt
Ripton with its skyscrapers and other buildings is just one of several options.
Away from the big city, the new 8×8 map also offers smaller villages, port areas, as well as mountains and a large swamp area in the north. Thanks to the many mangrove trees, however, there should be more short-range combat here, while snipers should prefer other environments. But see for yourself how the map is divided:
With Deston, the developers are also adding new features that will be exclusive to this map. On the one hand, there is the so-called ascent rope, which is attached to various large buildings and ensures that you get straight to the top. But you’re not trapped up there, because in Deston you get a permanent parachute that you can detonate at any time and that doesn’t get lost either.
You can even combine both the ascent rope and the new parachute to catapult yourself into the air. This is a bit reminiscent of Dying Light 2 or, abstractly, Batman: Arkham Knight, where you could also shoot yourself to certain heights with the superhero in order to get from A to B faster.
Also new to Deston are working gas stations, where you can fill up your vehicles. However, you should neither smoke near it nor shoot at it, otherwise a devastating explosion will follow.
PUBG inventor Brendan Greene is also currently working on a new world. To be more precise, on a new open world that is supposed to be really gigantic. You can find out more information about this here:

More weapons & more tactical elements
However, Deston is not the only novelty that the upcoming major update will bring. Instead, there are two new weapons that are of course ideal for close-range combat:
- Origin 12: Automatic shotgun that fires very quickly when needed, but has a correspondingly high recoil
- MP9: Classic submachine gun that is fast and efficient but loses accuracy at medium ranges
Also new is the Blue Chip Detector, which joins the other tactical gear like the drone or scope. The Blue Chip Detector works a bit like the Heartbeat Sensor in Warzone: you activate it and see on the device whether there are enemies in your immediate vicinity. However, the chip does not reflect real-time data and does not reveal your enemy’s vertical position.
As with the other tactical gear, the Blue Chip Detector also requires you to sacrifice one of your primary weapon slots. It is also not yet known whether the chip will also be available on the other maps.
