Dear Blacklisters: I wanted to write to you guys directly to let you know that I made the difficult decision to leave “The Blacklist”. I love the series with all my heart and it’s been an incredible journey, but after eight years I feel like it’s time for me to step out of my comfort zone, try something new, and discover a few of the other characters and stories crawling around in my head
While I am looking forward to this next chapter, I would be lying if I did not admit that my departure was associated with mixed emotions. “The Blacklist” is a family and saying goodbye is difficult. I already miss my fellow writers, the brilliant cast and our fearless crew, but more than anything I will miss you – the fans.
I’ve written several scripts that were never implemented and that are gathering dust on the shelf, which is why this experience was such a blessing. Having the opportunity to tell a new story every week – for an audience that looks forward to it – is a dream come true. I loved following your tweets, podcasts, recaps, tumblr pages, artwork, theories and fan fiction.
I’m certainly partisan, but the fanbase of “The Blacklist” is not only the most dedicated and hungry fanbase on television, but also incredibly smart and damn hard to fool. You keep the show alive and it is your enthusiasm that makes me feel grateful more than anything.
I really believe the show is still full of life and creativity and that bright days are ahead. And now I can join you – as a fan – to see where “The Blacklist” takes us next.
Thanks for eight incredible seasons.
Jon Bokenkamp in a Twitter statement
It really seems like Boone and Bokenkamp are leaving “The Blacklist” in friendship, but fans are getting nervous. The exit of a main character is already difficult to cope with, but with Bokenkamp the series loses its inventor, who always set the direction.
The 9th season must now prove in autumn 2021 that “The Blacklist” can maintain its previous quality. At least James Spader will stay with us as Red, who has been the figurehead of the series since the first episode. Even if the story remains exciting, a 10th season can also come.
