The Borderlands movie is such a rubbish and worthless thing that it’s forcing Borderlands fans to go back to the old games. Earlier this month, with the release of the movie, we saw a huge spike in the number of players of Borderlands, Borderlands 2, and Borderlands 3 as these poor fans desperately looked for reasons to keep following this IP.
Frankly, it was a good decision, because all three games are pretty good! Borderlands 2 is often hailed as the best of the trilogy, though the first still holds a special place in my heart. Borderlands 3 is more controversial among fans, but still features the same fantastic gunplay that made millions of gamers fall in love with the sci-fi post-apocalyptic series in the first place.

Borderlands 1 went from about 644 players on Steam on August 7 to 2,949 on August 11. Borderlands 2 went from 3,925 on August 7 to 7,938 on August 11, and Borderlands 3 went from 3,687 on August 7 to 12,379 on August 11. Those aren’t amazing numbers, but they’re not too bad for a trilogy that’s been largely forgotten for years.
If there’s anything to learn here, it’s that there’s clearly something in the game that isn’t in the bad movie. And I can tell you firsthand what it is. It’s action! Gearbox has always been great with gunplay and explosive gameplay. It’s the glue that holds the entire game together. The action in this movie is subpar, boring, and contains nothing but humor, which is arguably garbage the entire time. I still enjoyed the first Borderlands – jokes included – but by the time Borderlands 3 came around, I’d pretty much had enough.
