Nothing goes well for 343 Industries. Following the departure of a series mastermind and head of the studio, Halo Infinite loses another all-important member in the game’s development.
While the reorganization of 343 Industries will certainly do the studio good in the long run, for now it’s only seeing the loss of key employees.
No one left to take care of Halo Infinite’s engine?
David Berger, Director of Engineering, is expected to announce his departure from 343 Industries, according to sources Lords of Gambling etc Windows headquarters (above VGC). Berger has been in his role for more than 14 years and has worked for Microsoft for more than 20 years. While at 343 Industries, he coached the technical team and released Halo 4, Halo 5 and Halo Infinite.
Due to the nature of his work, he also contributed to the Slipspace engine, the final episode’s engine, for better or for worse. His departure, if confirmed, must be related to the difficulties the studio has faced to date. In 2020, Head of Development Chris Lee also decided to leave the company. Recently, it was Bonnie Ross, head of 343 Industries, who was packing up. Even if the chaotic development had to play a role here, she specified in her press release that her decision was motivated by the need for care “Family Medical Problem”
Losing so many important items while the game needs to recover to be fed with content doesn’t necessarily bode well. Maybe wait, Microsoft will let other Xbox studios 343 Industries come to their rescue? After all, they have several FPS specialists like Call of Duty teams or Bethesda games.
