Google has confirmed that they are currently testing a new version of YouTube Premium Lite in three different countries.
That’s why this is important: Last year, Google discontinued the Premium Lite plan. This was a cheaper version of YouTube Premium, without the music streaming service YouTube Music. A tariff that many YouTube users want. A “new version” of this tariff could now start.
Im Detail: Google has opposite Android Authority
- Some users in these regions see the plan as a new option if they want to sign up for YouTube Premium.
- The new version offers “limited commercial breaks”. This means that ads will continue to appear in music content and search. We would like to thank our reader Elbaum, who was offered the new tariff.
This is what the previous version of YouTube Premium Lite offered:
- YouTube videos without ads
- No YouTube Music
- No downloads to watch videos without an internet connection
- No background playback on Android and iOS
- The tariff cost 6 dollars per month.
- Users who were able to subscribe to it were probably allowed to keep it until today.
Will YouTube Premium Lite come to everyone? If Google is satisfied with the tests of the new version of YouTube Premium Lite, that is not unlikely. However, it is also possible that this version will also be discontinued and other versions will still be tested. So we have to continue to be patient.
Editorial opinion
Duy Linh Dinh: YouTube Premium is too expensive for many people, considering that you are “forced” to subscribe to a music streaming service. Many people are either already registered with one or are simply not interested in it.
Advertising, on the other hand, gets on almost everyone’s nerves. A Lite plan that decouples YouTube Music from YouTube Premium and costs less might be just the thing. I really hope that YouTube is happy with the tests and offers this plan to everyone.
I’ve been using YouTube Music for years, but that’s because it’s included with YouTube Premium. During this time, however, I learned that Google’s music streaming service can also be convincing on its own. I especially think the song recommendations are better than the competition.
If I get access to YouTube Premium Lite, I would still consider switching to it and making Apple Music my music streaming service of choice because of its lossless music playback.
What do you think of YouTube Premium Lite? Would you sign up for the service? Feel free to write it to us in the comments!
