The classic catalog of PS Plus Premium is confusing

catalog, classic, confusing, Premium

Earlier this week, Sony introduced new PlayStation Plus tiers – including PlayStation Essential, PlayStation Extra and PlayStation Premium. The more expensive option gives players an expanding library of free games, however, the games on each tier are confusing for some.

According to an official announcement in March of this year, this PlayStation Plus update offers a variety of different games to download, depending on which subscription version you get. For PS Extra owners, “The catalog includes up to 400* of the most enjoyable PS4 and PS5 games – including popular hits from our PlayStation Studios catalog and third-party partners.” If you’ve always opted for PS Premium , “a collection of beloved classics, available from the original PlayStation, PS2 and PSP generations with streaming and download options”.

This difference leaves some people scratching their heads about which games are available. For example, the PS4 remake of Medievil is one of the games in the Extra catalog, while the Mafia remake is in the Premium selection—that’s what PlayStation “classic” is meant to be.

On the PlayStation Plus Reddit, user LukeKid suggested other odd-looking titles. “Why are games like Saints Row Remastered and Demon Souls remastered extra, while Bioshock and Last of Us remaster are premium? Complete nonsense to me. I really want to play Bioshock , but I can’t because it’s a premium version”.

At first glance, the classification of these games does not seem to match the official data released by Sony. Bioshock and The Last of Us, the aforementioned examples, definitely fit better in the blockbuster camp than PlayStation Classics. While it is true that qualifying games like Wild Arms and Tekken 2 exist, their numbers compare to others like Lego games and FEAR
