Exactly two weeks after the release, Sons of the Forest received its first major update, which not only fixes bugs and balances, but also expands the Early Access game with new content. But how are the innovations received by the players? A look at the community reactions reveals great unity.
You can read what we think of Sons of the Forest and what we think still needs improvement in our review:
What is actually in the patch?
If you don’t yet know what’s new in the update, we’ll briefly summarize the most important changes for you:
- New content: Among other things, you can now binoculars
- Improvements and fixes: Kelvin no longer tears down tree houses, the fish traps work properly, doors can be locked and furniture can be moved.
- Balancing: Among other things, the damage of the shotgun has been significantly reduced, berries now fill you up, firewood burns faster and at night nearby mutants can disturb your sleep.
All other details about the update and the full patch notes can be found in our overview:
The first reactions to the big patch are almost entirely positive. The community seems to like changes and new content and is pleased that the developers have listened to the criticism and wishes of the players. So there about Neichin on Reddit to have been positively surprised by the scope of the update:
I was expecting a lot of bug fixes and maybe a lockable door. The developers have really impressed me with this patch. I’m looking forward to the next one!
It’s the same with the user Glittering_Act_4059who had apparently hoped for a roadmap with dates, but is satisfied with it:
While it’s frustrating for me not to have a roadmap, when every major update is so good for it, I can resign myself to being left in the dark.
Some people are particularly happy about certain changes, such as Creature Warrior:
Kelvin will be really mad when he finds out he can’t destroy my tree houses anymore haha.
The most helpful AI companion Kelvin has so far been able to collapse your tree houses with the ax in blind obedience. But you still love him:
There are also critical voices
Although praise can be heard from many quarters, some criticism of the update has also been voiced. Some players had a solution to the problems they encountered Performance-Probleme hoped for, but didn’t happen. Others warn not to get your hopes up for the next update, like MikeTheShowMadden:
Keep in mind that this is the first update for a game that has been in the works for years prior to Early Access. Much of the new content was probably prepared long before the update and was not only created in the last 14 days.
It is therefore quite possible that the next updates could take longer or bring less new content.
What do you think of the first major update for Sons of the Forest? Are you happy about the innovations, or would you have wished for other things first? Feel free to write it in the comments!
