As PS4 users know, the console will automatically take a screenshot when the player unlocks a trophy (in games where such captures have not been blocked). The PS5 goes a step further and takes a video recording of the moment the trophy is unlocked. But that’s not all.

Over time, collecting trophies in games released on PlaySttion consoles has become an integral part of the gaming experience. For some players, unlocking certain trophies has created lasting memories. Sony is aware of this and has decided to continue promoting the trophy immortality on PS5.
In fact, when the microphone used by the player is activated (e.g. for commented videos or streaming), the console appears to automatically record the player’s reaction when it unlocks a trophy and integrates the associated gameplay video. . The thing was discovered by a PS5 gamer who realized his console had recorded his voice without knowing it when he unlocked a trophy in Demon’s Souls. Initially shared on Redditthe video was then forwarded to Twitter:
“First time Souls player. I didn’t notice the PS5 recording your microphone’s audio when you get a trophy. Oops.” 🤣 # PS5 vid: halloiamjack #DemonsSouls pic.twitter.com/Mo3FUERJ20

It listens
Of course, this feature can be disabled by gamers who don’t want their console to record their cheers (or possible insults sent to an unruly boss) when they earn a trophy. For this type of use, audio recording is disabled on PS5 by default.
However, it is activated when a player authorizes the use of the microphone to stream (for example). In this way, some people have been videotaped without knowing their reactions to receiving trophies.
As you walk past, note in a similar register that the microphone integrated in the DualSense controller is activated from the start. And if the latter doesn’t automatically record player comments on gameplay videos, it will be activated during multiplayer games. Players who do not want their teammates / opponents to hear what they are saying should therefore mute the microphone in their console settings.
