Separated from the license he created, Yakuza’s father, Toshihiro Nagoshi, looks to the future. He compares his future play to Quentin Tarantino productions, particularly for violence.
Toshihiro Nagoshi and other members of Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio have left their company and SEGA for new adventures with NetEase. Yakuza 8 is therefore made without him, but the Japanese developer remains motivated. He even has big ambitions if they really come true.
The creator of Yakuza inspired by Quentin Tarantino
At an interview for 4players (above VGC) Toshihiro Nagoshi, the father of Yakuza, revealed the direction he plans to take for his first game under his new studio’s banner. A structure owned as a reminder by the Chinese giant NetEase Games. And his description of his project is interesting to say the least.
I can’t tell you much about our game yet, but I can give you a rough idea. Violence will clearly be an element of the gameplay, but without falling into thriller or horror. I want my game to feel like a Quentin Tarantino movie – with a little humor. I don’t like anything that is uniquely intimidating, gory or brutal. I want a human touch, a bit of humor and seriousnessthat’s what I’m looking for.
Given the quality of the filmmaker’s feature films, we wish Nagoshi-san found the right balance, as many have broken Quentin Tarantino’s teeth. When is the reveal? “You probably won’t have to wait too long… Or rather, I think I’ll reveal it a lot sooner than other developers would.” he adds. At the Game Awards 2022?
The creator of Yakuza even went back to his exit from SEGA. That choice is simple: he preferred to go back to designing games rather than staying in a management position. In his opinion, this departure served his interests as well as those of SEGA.
