The Crew: First part of the racing game series is retiring

Crew, game, part, racing, retiring, series

After the successful The Crew 2 and the launch of The Crew Motorfest, Ubisoft is swinging the broom and packing the first part of the series into the virtual attic.

Three parts of an online game at the same time – that’s probably a bit too much of a good thing. Ubisoft probably thought so too and took The Crew, the first entry in the online racing game series released in 2014, from the stores. This means that the game is no longer available for purchase on PC, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

Makes sense, because the servers are also scheduled to be shut down next year, making The Crew unplayable. What’s less nice is that the game had already been flown out of stores before Ubisoft officially announced it. A little communicative stumbling block. But you still have some time to let off steam with your first novel. The servers are scheduled to finally be shut down on April 1, 2024. Players who recently purchased the first The Crew apparently have the option of a refund. Ubisoft’s statement says:

“We understand that this may be disappointing for those still playing the game, but it has become a necessity due to server infrastructure and upcoming licensing restrictions. Discontinuing a game, especially our first one, is not something that happens We take this lightly. Our goal remains to provide players with the best action gameplay experience, and to achieve that we will continue to add new content and support for The Crew 2 and the recently launched The Crew Provide engine-proof.”

In the statement, developer Ivory Tower also gives a small look back at the creation of the series and the studio, which began in 2007 with three friends and an idea and now has over 300 employees. It also mentions that The Crew 2 had over two million active players per month – a very interesting note, because you rarely see concrete figures for the series. In total, the series is said to have reached over 40 million players last year.
