Two weeks after the premiere images debuted, the long-in-progress reboot of The Crow , directed by Rupert Sanders, has released its first trailer, and it’s all the edginess and gore we could want – there are more.
What about the oppressive atmosphere? Well, it’s not actually there. At least not in this preview. Sanders is known for making his otherwise forgettable blockbusters look pretty good, and here is no different, but it’s hard to argue that this looks as moody as Alex Proyas’ 1994 classic, The The film is also based on James O’s comic series Barr.

There’s a pretty strong John Wick vibe to it all, which isn’t surprising considering Lionsgate is behind both joints. The “dead wife/girlfriend” plot has always been there, but it all hinges on the visual execution and the tone that seems to permeate the entire project, if it weren’t for this, this would be another riff on Mr. Wick’s bloody revenge story. Sparse gothic imagery and supernatural sequences.
Bill Skarsgård seems (as always) to be killing it as Eric Draven. Regardless of his appearance, he looks menacing and unique in the role, and there are some pretty sick action beats in there, including gore. Is all of this enough to glue the entire show together? We’ll have to wait and see. Although the first poster (shown below) doesn’t mention a release date, The Crow is still scheduled to hit theaters on June 7, 2024.
Skarsgård is joined by the likes of FKA twigs and all-around reliable villain Danny Huston. The official synopsis shared by Lionsgate reads: “Soulmates Eric Draven (Skarsgård) and Shirley Webster (FKA twigs) are brutally murdered when demons from her dark past overtake them. With a chance to save his true love by sacrificing himself, Eric sets out to exact merciless revenge on his killer, traveling through the worlds of the living and the dead to right what was wrong.”
