The Cycle: Frontier has only been around for a year, but the PvPvE extraction shooter apparently couldn’t find enough fans because the ending has now been officially announced.
The scramble for a good place in the multiplayer games Olympus is anything but easy. Apparently Yager Development had to realize that too. Their PvPvE extraction shooter was only officially launched in June 2022, garnished with some advance praise. Well, in view of the tough competition, it probably didn’t succeed in attracting enough players.
As Yager Development has now announced via Twitter, the game will be discontinued later this year. On September 27th, the servers are supposed to be shut down for good and the game will be moved to the attic. Not an easy decision, as the developers announce, but a necessary one, since running the game is no longer financially viable.
All real money purchases will therefore be disabled from June 28th, and refunds will be given for all real money purchases made after June 14th. The premium version of the Season 3 Fortuna Pass is activated free of charge for all players when they log in. Levels can still be skipped and this is now also discounted, and game progression is also accelerated so that the remaining fans can still experience as much of the game as possible.
Intended to launch as an accessible shooter, The Cycle: Frontier got off to a good start, thanks in part to strong interest from streamers. According to Yager, however, interest quickly ebbed away, especially as there were quite serious problems with cheaters. Among other things, Season 2 apparently met with little interest. After that, some changes were made to the game, which allowed the player numbers to increase again with Season 3, but not to an extent that would ensure a financially viable operation of the game.
Yager now wants to throw himself into new projects and take the experiences from The Cycle: Frontier with him. The complete statement of the developers you can read it on Steam.
