The zombie MMO piñata The Day Before opens another chapter and, surprisingly, we actually see something of the game. Apparently, the developers are not making friends with it.
The Day Before… is it coming or not? Is it a scam or not? Difficult to say and the last few days have not helped to shed any light on the whole thing. Since the first gameplay was announced in January, but the title was then postponed again due to (questionable) rights issues. Instead of March 1st, the game should now appear in November.
This fueled rumors again that the game could be a scam and players are becoming more and more skeptical. Probably to counteract this, developer Fntastic has finally decided to publish a ten-minute gameplay video. And indeed, everything looks like a playable game that can even shine with quite respectable urban environments.
The problem, however, is that the scenes shown are about as exciting as a telephone book. We see a young woman being steered through the environment in third person view. Exploration and looting are primarily shown, but there is also a look at the craft at a workbench. Battle scenes are rather scarce, but at least other games flit through the environment here and there.
Everything actually looks like real gameplay, but if you were expecting some excitement or action, look into the tube. Too few zombies, too much running, too much loot. The comments on the gameplay video are correspondingly devastating. Comments like “Game’s whole budget went to her ass, phenomenal” are among the more harmless. Would you like some excerpts? Can you have:
It remains to be seen how the developers will react and what awaits us in the end after the expectations were very high after the announcement and the first trailers. We’ll know more in November… as long as The Day Before isn’t postponed again. Oh, and of course you can take a look at the gameplay yourself:
