call of Duty We’ve released a game every year since 2005. This means that we have released a new Call of Duty every year for the past 16 years.Although Activision There are multiple teams working on games — whether it’s Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer Games, Treyarch, or Raven — and that’s still a lot of games in a relatively short period of time. But that era may soon be over.
According to a new report from Bloomberg, some “senior employees” at Activision are considering changing the release cadence of the Call of Duty franchise and are considering dropping the game’s current setup as an annual franchise.
Given that Call of Duty Pioneer’s sales are the game’s worst in a decade — and Warzone’s ongoing issues keep making headlines — it looks like the series’ developers need some time to step back and address some fundamentals problem.
Given that we’ve also seen companies like Toys For Bob, Beenox, Demonware, High Moon Studios, Radical Entertainment, and Vicarious Visions struggle from their own projects to hard at work in the Call of Duty salt mine, this news is certainly a relief to move A studio owned by Blizzard.
It remains to be seen if any of these rumors from within the company will come to fruition; Microsoft just bought Activsion Blizzard for a staggering $68.7 billion. Given that Microsoft “wanted to keep Call of Duty on the PlayStation” — perhaps to recoup its costs — we could see Phil Spencer and Xbox continue to push for annual releases of CoD games.
But, by the same token, Xbox seems keen to diversify Activision Blizzard’s offerings. Just yesterday, we heard the names of Spencer – King’s Quest, Guitar Hero and even HeXen. Could we see some ancillary studios come out of the shadows of CoD and start building their own games all over again? Personally, I really hope so.
