Devil May Cry was adapted into an anime back in 2007, but Netflix decided to give it another try, bringing in Adi Shankar (Castlevania) as creator, showrunner, and executive producer. We’ve been eagerly awaiting news about the series for months, but fans are still discovering new details in the final footage that was released at the end of 2023.
This discovery isn’t even a big deal, but no one pointed out that there was something hiding in plain sight in the BTS short video. It comes from r/DevilMayCry, where user Weekly-Talk-9959 pointed out some footage from the process, and the full footage we used as the main image for the article clearly shows the sword belt on Dante’s back.

This may not seem like a big deal, especially to players who haven’t really delved into the action, hack-and-slash video game series featuring the famous character, but fans have long wondered how exactly Dante’s sword is positioned vertically on his back, and to be fair, it’s an issue that affects more than just the DMC games. Mind you, Devil May Cry is all about demons, over-the-top action, and all kinds of crazy stuff, so who cares? Well, it seems some of the creative staff do.
So, Dante isn’t carrying the weapon by magical force. At least in the animated version of this universe, there’s a physical explanation for this, which should get more footage and fresh plot details soon, including where it fits in the video game timeline. Plus, it’ll be nice to get a peek into the voice cast, which, if Castlevania is any indication, may be even more star-studded than expected.
What about Devil May Cry 6? Will it be out soon? If there aren’t any major creative changes at Capcom, one would expect Hideaki Gono to return to direct the game, but he’s probably still busy with the follow-up to Dragon’s Dogma 2, so it might be a while before we learn about the future of the series.
