Gaming News The DioField Chronicle: Square Enix unveils brand new tactical RPG for PS5 and PS4
In fact, Japanese development studios and publishers from the land of the rising sun were honored for this State of Play. To conclude the event, Sony had left Square Enix a few extra minutes, not to tell us something about Final Fantasy, to the chagrin of some, but to unveil two new licenses, including The DioField Chronicle.
Summary
- The Return to the Grace of Tactical RPG?
- Not the Salt War, but the Jade War!
The Return to the Grace of Tactical RPG?
During the last few minutes, many players have had to hold their breath hoping to see Final Fantasy land, it’s not even the suggestion of The DioField Chronicle
There are no turn-based confrontations here, but real-time thanks to a combat system that pushes the strategy cursor to its limits: the RTTB or Real Time Tactical Battle. Behind this extended name hides one of the main arguments of this new license, which has been worked on by a team made up of former Final Fantasy players (including Kamikokuryo Isamu (Final Fantasy XII and XIII) and the character designer Taiki, who makes his mark has pieced together the past of the Lord of Vermillion saga.
If it’s nothing revolutionary on paper: a system of strengths and weaknesses to help your troops advance, for example, The DioField Chronicle seeks to provide a gripping and epic narrative in a universe of medieval, fantastic and contemporary references and influences where your choices will matter.
Not the Salt War, but the Jade War!
Of course, as the excerpt revealed at this State of Play shows, tactical combat is an important dimension of The DioField Chronicle, but not only ! Behind every good tactical J-RPG lies a conspiracy consisting of nations tearing each other apart, endless wars and ultimate battles to make the good guys victorious. To stage this Manichaeism, the developers have imagined a conflict at the heart of the lands of Rowetale, with a single goal: to steal the jade necessary for technologies and magic.
Unfortunately for the island of DioField, it is full of it, which has not failed to attract the greed of the Empire and the Alliance, two nations that have joined forces to harness this energy and enhance its magic and powers. But the Kingdom of Alletain, where the House of Shaytam is thriving, doesn’t listen and can count on the help of a small group of elite mercenaries to come to their aid.
The project The DioField Chronicle has only revealed itself on the surface for the moment and the video feed naturally shows us some gameplay snippets that cut the long cutscene that provides the context and the universe. As far as we know, the player has to write the history of this conflict by taking control of the band called “Blue Fox”, composed of the powerful Fredret, the intelligent Iscarion, the charismatic Waltaquin and the mastermind of this troupe, Andrias .
The DioField Chronicle is expected on PS5 and PS4 this year, for now without further details.
