Game News The director of Elden Ring puts an end to the debate about the difficulty level: Even he plays in “easy mode” and accepts it!
Hidetaka Miyazaki, CEO of FromSoftware and creator of Souls and Elden Ring, revealed some secrets about his own gaming experience in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. Among other things, he admits to a lack of talent and admits to using all the means at his disposal to achieve his goals.
The secrets of Hidetaka Miyazaki
The DLC of Elden Ring, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Earth Tree has finally been available for more than a week and is a new success for FromSoftware. After becoming the best-reviewed expansion by the press, SOTE was a complete critical success and also exceeded all expectations in terms of sales, having exceeded the 5 million mark just 72 hours after its release. Amazing numbers that once again demonstrate the popularity of GOTY 2022.
At the launch of this expansion, Hidetaka Miyazaki spoke in a long interview with The guard. The creator of Elden Ring notably stated that he doesn’t get his hands on his creations after release for fear of encountering “omitted” elements or issues that could bother him as a player.
Until a game comes out, I’ll play it as often as I can and spend as much time on it as I can. But after it comes out, I usually don’t want to touch it because I know I’ll find things I left out or run into problems that bother me. And once I become a gamer, there’s nothing I can do about it. So when a game comes out, I don’t play it.
All means are good
However, for the development of Shadow of the Erdtree, the CEO of FromSoftware made an exception and, in particular, shared his own experience with his latest work, but admitted that it was “absolutely useless.”
In preparation for Shadow of the Erdtree, I wrote the main story of Elden Ring. I want to make it clear that I am absolutely terrible at video games, so my approach or rather my playstyle was to use everything I had at my disposal, all the help available, all the support the game offers and all the knowledge I had as the architect behind the title. The freedom and the fact that Elden Ring is open world certainly made it easier to access and I am probably the one who benefits the most from that as a player.
With this declaration, Hidetaka Miyazaki therefore puts an end to the eternal debate about the difficulty of his games, which divides the Souls-like community by opposing players who chant the famous “Git Gud” as an immutable dogma. So don’t be ashamed to evoke your facial expressions, especially when facing the final boss of Shadow of the Erdtree, who is surely one of the most fearsome enemies ever encountered in all of Hidetaka Miyazaki’s works.
