Here we go again. A beloved former developer from the Fallout series has been asked if he’d be willing to return to the series and create something new. Last time it was Tim Cain at the center of the conversation, this time it’s Fallout: New Vegas director Josh Sawyer, and their answers are remarkably similar.
In a recent YouTube Q&A video, Sawyer was asked if he’d be willing to lead another Fallout project if Bethesda and Microsoft approached him, in which he answered fan questions about everything from Pillars of Eternity to bike accessories (he said fenders and lights are nice, especially if it rains where you live).

“I think with any project, it’s about ‘what are we doing, what are we working within, what can I and can’t do?’” the developer responded. “I think with any IP, especially IPs that I’ve worked with before, it’s about ‘what do I want to do this time that I wasn’t able to do last time?’”
“If the restrictions are really too restrictive, then it’s not going to be very appealing, because who wants to work on something where they can’t explore it?” he added. Sawyer went on to point out that he thinks there are “still a lot of stories” to be told in the Fallout IP, as well as “questions to be asked about society,” which was a pretty funny statement at the end.
“It’s like that with any IP,” the developer concluded, “‘Do you want to develop this?’ I don’t know, what can we do and what can’t we do?”
As mentioned before, Sawyer’s answer is very similar to that of Fallout original creator Tim Cain, who answered a nearly identical question in a YouTube video back in June. Cain stressed that a project that gives him the opportunity to do something completely different, or something he hasn’t done yet in his career, is a big factor in his current interest.
