In addition to providing details about the recently announced Dead Rising Deluxe Remake, last night’s Capcom Next showcase provided more Resident Evil news than you might expect. It was officially confirmed that a new game in the series is in development, with the director of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard at the helm.
Yes, both this game and the original PC port of the first Resi recently became easily accessible on PC for the first time, and fans of this series about big vampire women who are bad guys trying to kill you, er, that you want to be killed, have been well fed.

During the presentation, Resident Evil 7 director Koji Nakanishi popped up to deliver the good news, announcing simply, “We’re making a new Resident Evil game,” with a pretty amazing transition between his face and the setting sun.
“It’s really hard to figure out [Resident Evil] 7,” he continued, “but I’ve found it, and honestly, it feels really meaningful. I can’t share any details yet, but I hope you guys can look forward to the day when I can.”

While Nakanishi ended up touching on a direct discussion about the new Resident Evil game, as you might expect, the director also provided some insight into the philosophy he took with Resident Evil 7, which has sold 13 million copies since its release in 2017. The director admitted that Resident Evil as a brand was “off track” when the game was first developed, saying that the game focused more on action-oriented gameplay, which caused a lot of backlash from fans.
“There’s a general consensus among fans of the series that a Resident Evil game should scare the hell out of you. That’s the starting point for Resident Evil 7,” the developer explains. So while other details about the Resi game are scarce at the moment, it seems like a good bet that it’s designed to make you want to hide in a closet.
