Mythological stories take time to count, and this is finally exemplified with the announcement of Titan Quest 2, 18 years after the release of THQ Nordic’s first divine hack’n slash.
Alongside Diablo, Path of Exile and other notable hack’n slash games, Titan Quest positioned itself as a worthy competitor when it was released in 2006, with various mythologies (Greek, Egyptian and even Chinese) as its backdrop. After receiving numerous expansions, it was finally time to move on with a sequel. So it’s time for Titan Quest 2, which has finally received a proper trailer. A new opus that lives up to Homeric expectations?
Mythology gets a new legend with Titan Quest 2
The hack’n slash genre is far from dead. On October 8, Diablo 4 will notably be entitled to its first DLC, Vessel of Hatred. We are also following with great enthusiasm the imminent arrival of a serious contender for the title of best game in its category: Path of Exile 2. At the beginning of August, another representative who gives pride of place to regular monster massacres is coming: Titan Quest 2.
As a reminder, the first opus came out in 2006, developed by Iron Lore Entertainment (to whom we also owe the excellent Grim Dawn in the hack’n slash genre). In 2021, this venerable title received its latest DLC, Eternal Embers, focused on Chinese mythology. We’ve known for some time that a Titan Quest 2 was in development with a promising proposition. This was recently confirmed with a proper trailer that presents us with more gameplay.
Thanks to the Unreal Engine 5, Titan Quest 2 therefore appears in its most beautiful form. As for the gameplay, we will find a strong connection to various mythologies to transform our mortal character into a hero blessed by the gods. Theoretical tinkering enthusiasts should have a lot of fun, with a variety of construction methods and skills that will drive the Lernaean Hydra crazy. Unfortunately, Homer did not tell us when Titan Quest 2 will be released. At most, we know that it is planned for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series. Note that the title will be presented at the upcoming Gamescom from August 21 to 25 in Cologne, Germany.
