Someone must have run out of mana… Netflix had an animated series about Magic: The Gathering in 2019 announcedwhich was actually supposed to be released in 2022. But to date, nothing has (obviously) come of it.
No more Magic series from and for Netflix
Now it is clear: The project is no longer stuck in development hell, but it will no longer happen either. In fact, the Magic series has been quietly scrapped, as Brandon Routh revealed at the Toronto International Film Festival.
The former Superman actor was actually presenting his new film Ick but was Collider about Netflix’s planned Magic series. Routh was supposed to lend his voice to the Planeswalker Gideon Jura in the project.
And according to Routh, the current status is that Netflix has pulled the plug on the Magic series:
[…] As far as I understand, no one has officially communicated this, but the series is not going to happen. […]
If this cancellation hurts you, perhaps the Amazon series Vox Machina is something for you:

Not a good hand for Magic fans
The project involved Joe and Anthony Russo The directors of The Winter Soldier, Civil War, Infinity War and Endgame were originally responsible. At that time, Henry Gilroy (The Clone Wars) and Jose Molina (Firefly) had written the script.
Because of creative differences
(How Deadline reported) this constellation was abandoned, while Jeff Kline (Transformers: Prime), Steche Melching (Star Wars: Rebels) and Audu Paden (Star Wars: Rebels).
Apparently the Magic series has already been written and all of the voices have already been recorded. However, things went suspiciously quiet around the project when Netflix canceled a whole range of animated series that were still in the middle of development.
For example, Bone, Wings of Fire, Pashmina or a Gorillaz film by Jamie Hewlett. Netflix had thrown all these projects (and more) overboard to save costs.
