As you can imagine, you probably didn’t experience Christmas Eve as usual. We had to adjust and review certain traditions for this year, ignoring harmless gestures, wearing a mask, disinfecting the oven, exposing the turkey to UV rays, not having too many guests … restrictions.
However, we are not here to talk about this nuisance associated with the presence of a virus that has been a little too bulky for many months. There is one custom that has not been questioned: that of our personal lists of the best games of the year, disappointments and expectations for the next. As always at the same time, the editors tell you all about 2020 in terms of video games.
iGamesNews would like to thank you again for your loyalty, your general friendliness and wishes you the best possible end of the year and of course good reads!
PS: We invite you again this time to discuss in the comments below what you enjoyed and what you didn’t like this year!
Camille Allard
2020 was a difficult year for everyone, but that doesn’t mean it was uninteresting for the video game. On the contrary, there were even some nice surprises …
ABOVE
It won’t surprise you: for me, the game revelation of the year is without a doubt Crusader Kings III This far exceeds all of my expectations and, in my opinion, represents the quintessence of the historical war game of Paradox. To make his dynasty flourish for several hundred years in the middle of the Middle Ages, I didn’t need more to make my heart beat faster as a player and history lover. It’s more than just a game, it’s a real historical experience.
Even if the game got off to a pretty disastrous start on PS4 and Xbox One, it remains a 2020 memorial on PC and a real slam on many levels. Really pizzazz in terms of atmosphere, the game is full of details and keeps a lot of promises. This is the first time in a long time that I have so easily immersed myself in an RPG of this scale without seeing the passage of time.
Yes, I’m cheating, and the game isn’t from 2020. But this year of repeated restrictions was the opportunity to restart the game with a friend, and what a surprise! If I had big trouble sticking to the title when it was released in 2017, it’s clear that a few years later the Rare Studio was able to add a fabulous community dimension to their pirate game and turn it into an adventure simulation. and just great treasure hunt.
FLOP
I had a lot of expectation Kingdom of sin, so passionate about the prohibition era that I find little used in video games, rare exceptions like the excellent Mafia. What a surprise when you launch it and play for the test to discover a technique that is completely below expectations and serves the gameplay itself. A disappointment and a terrible return to reality. Kingdom of sin
A total flop because the game is not yet in the release version in my Steam library, very simple.
THE MOST EXPECTED GAME OF 2021
Nice surprise from the Game Awards and the end of the year for me: the specific announcement by Back 4 blood with two trailers. I’m a HARDCORE fan of the Left 4 Dead saga, which to me represents the best of cooperative FPS that verges on perfection to say the least. It was with great pleasure that I discovered the gameplay of a clearly “Left 4 Dead 3, but without a name because we don’t have the rights“I have great faith in Turtle Rock Studio which, despite a somewhat disappointing Evolve in 2015, remains a great studio full of talent and expertise. It’s hard to hide my excitement and anticipation of this title.
