Elden Ring is full of beautiful music. Whether you’re just roaming The Lands Between or having an unsettling boss fight with Malenia, the score is filled with haunting symphonies that serve as the soundtrack to your heroic adventures.
Having said that, you’d think Elden Ring’s songs might sing about the journey you’ve embarked on, praising you for being a lone defiler in a terrible world, but it’s not. In fact, many of the lyrics in Elden Ring’s music turned out to be downright absurd.
First reported by our friends at Eurogamer, a Reddit user known as Magister Organi has begun researching the lyrics of the Elden Ring song extensively himself.
Magister Organi is a Latin student who has been studying the choral chants of the Elden Ring for several months. They even contacted Elden Ring’s music department. While they didn’t get a response initially, after showing the team their research, they finally got some answers about how the music was made and whether the lyrics really meant anything.
The user first learns the dirge (the song in the Altus Plateau that the siren keeps chanting), whose lyrics are actually in Latin. Magister Organi’s Latin and English translations of Lamentations can be seen in the video from the game from Mars.
However, the song of lament was just an exception to the rest of Elden Ring’s music, which Magister Organi later discovered (after speaking with Elden Ring’s music producers) to consist entirely of digital gibberish. The rest of Elden Ring’s soundtrack is said to be computer-generated and tweaked to purposefully emulate an ancient language.
For example, Magister Organi then went on to analyze Mohg’s themes. While the song has many almost Latin-sounding syllables, Organi was able to conclude that they were not Latin.
A YouTuber named Daniel Olmos has personally attempted to translate computer-generated music. As a result, many players believe that certain tracks have lyrics, including Godskin Apostle’s Theme. Alas, after Magister Organi’s correspondence with FromSoftware and their own extensive research, it turns out that the lyrics don’t make sense at all.
While the truth is a bit disappointing, it’s good to have some concrete answers about the origins of the Elden Ring soundtrack.
In recent Elden Ring news, a data miner revealed that the cover art character Vyke used to have his own questline.
