As a matter of fact, Bethesda used this move to make the first two Elder Scrolls free. Specifically, these are The Elder Scrolls: Arena and The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall. Two RPGs that were ahead of their time, especially by offering maps with a huge playing field.
