After the end of Google Stadia was recently announced, players of long-term titles in particular are now worried: what will become of my score? At least at ESO, a solution has now been promised.
In January 2023, Google shut down the ailing cloud gaming service Stadia after the concept wasn’t really well received by players. That means a lot to worry about for those who bought their games on Stadia. Google has already promised refunds, but what about the hard-earned game saves, especially for long-term titles or MMOs?
In the case of The Elder Scrolls Online, there is now a first all-clear. Bethesda and Zenimax Online confirmed via Twitter that there will be a solution for Stadia players. Accordingly, ESO players are offered the opportunity to transfer their entire Stadia ESO accounts to the PC, with everything that goes with it, from characters to inventory to purchased objects.
Since the Stadia players played on the PC servers anyway, even friends lists and guild memberships are completely preserved. Bethesda wants to comment shortly on how the account transfer should take place.
Several developers and publishers have already announced that they are working on ways for Stadia players to transfer their saves or game accounts to other services. Ubisoft is already working on a way to transfer Stadia purchases to Ubisoft Connect, and IO Interactive (Hitman 3) and Bungie (Destiny 2) are already addressing the problem.
