Will curved monitors soon be a thing of the past? With a new dome screen including an OLED display, TCL wants to set new standards for immersion while gaming.

If you’re a self-respecting PC gamer, you play with a curved monitor. The rounded computer screens literally surround you left and right as you play, drawing you even more into the action. But when it comes to immersion, the top of the flagpole has apparently not yet been reached, as the television manufacturer TCL has now shown at the DCT 2023 event.
In addition to some new 8K models and 240 Hertz gaming screens, TCL presented a very special innovation: a dome-shaped monitor. Like a first teaser image of the model on the Chinese website ithome shows, the screen is not only rounded on the right and left, but also at the top and bottom. It almost seems as if the monitor is surrounding the player’s head.
VR glasses use a similar principle, using rounded lenses to create more image depth and immersion than normal flat screens. Technically, the dome screen is also equipped with what a good gaming monitor needs.
Dome monitor from TCL: resolution and refresh rate
A refresh rate of 120 Hertz should ensure smooth gaming scenes, which should also be displayed in a correspondingly good resolution thanks to 4K support. According to TCL, the screen diagonal measures 31 inches. When it comes to image technology, the model uses an OLED display and thus one of the most popular and currently best panel technologies.
There is no release date for the monitor yet. However, it is quite possible that other manufacturers are already working on their own models that take the principle of curved monitors to the next level. And for all of you non-gamers: Of course, you can also use TCL’s dome-like screen just to surf the Internet.
