After Final Fantasy 7, another popular episode of the license could return with its own remake. An insider, who today has a small reputation, confirms its existence.
The last few months have been the most productive for Final Fantasy lovers. FF16 modernized the license last summer with overtly action-oriented gameplay, as the Pixel Remaster Collection breathed a second life into the first great classics. At the beginning of the year, it was FF7 Rebirth that gave fans a nice blow. And then ? According to the manufacturer, FF7 Remake 3 should be released faster than its predecessor, but it seems that Square Enix has another cartridge in stock: FF9 Remake.
FF9 Remake would actually be a reality
The rumor has been going on for many months. It all started in September 2021 with the famous Nvidia leak. The manufacturer had suffered a serious error that allowed it to extract a long list of games that was frankly eccentric on paper. When we saw names like Resident Evil 4 Remake, Dragon’s Dogma, a new Tomb Raider or even The Talos Principles 2, it was hard not to be in disbelief. Except month after month the names have been confirmed and the list of officially announced games is now too long to list. A certain FF9 remake was mentioned in this famous leak and it seems that it is actually real.
This time it’s the insider Midori, known for its numerous proven leaks surrounding SEGA and Persona, which adds its little salt. In his opinion, the game, like other game remakes in the franchise, is well in development and since FF9 Remake was not the only game from the license mentioned in the Nvidia leak, we have our idea of one of those affected. A certain Final Fantasy Tactics Remastered was present alongside him and since then fans have continued to beg the original producer to give them some clues, but he denies any involvement in this project.
A game that attracts a lot of attention
Then again, the teases for the FF9 remake had apparently started several months ago. The Collector’s Edition of Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail will actually feature two bonus characters: Zidane and Garnet. « You may have noticed a lot of references to Final Fantasy IX here, but the reason is a mystery », explained the MMORPG’s producer, Naoki Yoshida. If the insider’s story gives him weight, recent teases leave little room for doubt, and more reliable sources like Jeff Grubb also point in that direction, the information should be treated with caution until possible confirmation. So could the game be announced in the summer? Square Enix is currently one of the notable absentees from Summer Game Fest 2024, but new publishers will be confirmed as the event approaches.
