Given the success of FF7 Remake and the long wait for Rebirth, there are many questions about a possible remake of another episode, especially Final Fantasy 6.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake was a huge success, there’s no doubt about that. So much so that the second part titled “Rebirth” is eagerly awaited by everyone. Square Enix is increasing the pressure by revealing lots of information and videos. In this context, how about a remake of another FF episode, for example Final Fantasy 6 Remake? Producer Yoshinori Kitase answered this question.
FF6 remake soon on the way?
French YouTuber Julien Chièze had the opportunity to interview Yoshinori Kitase as part of the upcoming release of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. During a question, the emblematic figure of the J-RPG franchise expressed his opinion on a possible remake of Final Fantasy 6. In particular, he explains that the FF7 remake is so ambitious that it is divided into three parts. To do a similar job for the FF6 remake would probably take double that or 20 years… Therefore, unless there is a big surprise, we shouldn’t hope for a game like this remake to appear any time soon. Despite everything, the man immediately recognizes that there are many fans around the world who appreciate the game. He explains that he can’t imagine the work it would take because the game is even bigger and has even more characters.
This isn’t the first time Kitase has talked about this, and in another interview we referenced on iGamesNews last June, we learned that FF6 Remake would be very difficult to achieve. Upon release, Final Fantasy 6 was well received for both its story and gameplay mechanics. The game had a notable influence on subsequent role-playing games and remains popular among fans of the series. The gameplay includes the Active Time Battle combat system typical of the series at the time.
Players manage a team of characters, each with unique abilities, and can equip and customize them with different skills and equipment. The game’s soundtrack, composed by Nobuo Uematsu, is known for its quality. Although the graphics were limited by the technology of the time, they were praised for their style and expressiveness.
FF7 Remake, the sequel is coming soon
FF7 Rebirth, the long-awaited sequel, will be released exclusively on PS5 on February 29, 2024. The game picks up where the previous remake left off and promises to surprise even longtime fans, including introducing unexpected elements like Cloud and Sepiroth working together in a new timeline. This is perfect for players who felt like they already knew everything about the universe. This shows that it is always possible to reinvent yourself, even with a remake.
