If you are a follower of Pokémon, you may have wondered how they design each species. It is hard to imagine where they get so many ideas to give life to the strangest Pokémon. Many times the clue is in the name itself and its etymological meaning. But the inspirations to create each concept are not always so obvious. Did you know that Misdreavus is based on a legend about beheaded ghosts? It's one of the most sinister stories behind a Pokémon, but there are also creatures with absurd origins like Scraggy and Scrafty, Sinister Pokémon of the fifth generation that looks very curious.
Scraggy is based on reptiles and their ability to shed their skin as they grow. But this Pokémon always holds the bottom of the molt with his arms as if he didn't want to lose it. As Twitter user Dr. Lava points out, the design of Scraggy and therefore its Scrafty evolution are inspired by sagging pants, a fashion of urban and artistic movements such as hip hop. As Ken Sugimori, chief Pokémon designer explained, «It was difficult to translate this concept», but Game Freak helped a lot of the animations To make sense of this design.
Baggy Snakeskin Pants:
Scraggy and Scrafty are based on the fashion of wearing pants that are so baggy, you've gotta hold them up. What’s more, the designers also modeled their pants on a snake shedding its skin.
