Shooter fans will have to take a break tomorrow because The First Descendant is due for a long server maintenance. But a new hotfix is also on the horizon.
The First Descendant is still doing pretty well in terms of player numbers. According to SteamDB, there are still over 150,000 players playing the game at the same time every day. However, like console players, they will have to prepare for a break on Thursday, as the development team has announced server maintenance.
If our conversion skills serve us correctly, the lights will go out for several hours starting at 9 a.m. (midnight PDT) on Thursday. The plan is for the maintenance to be completed by 2 p.m., but you know, things can always go wrong.
A new update with version number 1.0.3 will be installed along with the maintenance, although it is currently unclear which features the hotfix will include. Nexon will announce this soon.
Nexon recently released update 1.0.2, which was well received by players. Among other things, it brought matchmaking for the “dungeons” on hard difficulty, more sources for rare materials and revisions to some boss skills. So it will be interesting to see what’s in the package this time.
The First Descendant got off to a strong start as a free-to-play title despite mixed reviews and user ratings, and was able to attract over 10 million players to Albion in the first week. In terms of gameplay, you can expect a fairly grind-heavy looter shooter that is very reminiscent of a mix of Warframe and Outriders.
We were only semi-enthusiastic about the title. “At the moment, The First Descendant is a free-to-play looter shooter in the Warframe style that is entertaining in co-op mode, with reasonably solid mechanics, but also a few technical problems. The main problem is likely to be long-term motivation, because everything quickly degenerates into a dull, repetitive shooting orgy that lacks variety in all areas.”
