Tiptoeing through the Demon Realm in Dragon Ball Daima was never Akira Toriyama’s plan. With the new adventure formally begun, little Son Goku and his friends venture on foot into this strange world with floating volcanoes, seas of darkness and purple skies. Well, and with dangers that can appear from behind any mountain or from the depths of a gas cloud at the slightest carelessness. As Goku said when leaving the third consecutive ambush in this new chapter, in this demonic world you can’t let your guard down.
The episode “Parrot“makes it implicit that the series prefers to take a small but very well calculated detour before continuing to unfold the great plot to continue giving more nuances and prominence to the Daima Kai, the demon kingdom. A success given that, as spectators, we will discover along the way that the heroes are forced to face new dangers on foot, fun artifacts that only exist in this world and, in the process, introduce a new protagonist who seeks to get the public into the pocket since its first appearance.
The one in progress, through this episode, moves away a little from those rails inherited from Dragon Ball GT and little by little its setting becomes more and more similar to those JRPGs in which Akira Toriyama has left his own mark, introducing elements and clichés shamelessly inspired by Japanese role-playing games without losing the original perspective: returning to the sensations of the first adventures of little Son Goku. Offering an exquisite mix between the not so predictable and what we already liked.
And what about the action? All the Dragon Ball sagas are a reflection of Toriyama’s passion for martial arts, and despite the fact that the dense air in the Demon Realm greatly limits the mobility of our travelers, including enormous restrictions when it comes to fly, the truth is that the distribution of action sequences in the little more than twenty minutes that the episode lasts is very well planned: short, but attractive fights. Without those transformations so typical of the series, but really well animated.
Needless to say, not all inhabitants of the demonic kingdom are hostile, but it is clear that in the end the new setting encourages encounters with enemies and is free from dangers and threats. And that Goku’s strength and powers have been diminished in proportion to his size enables resolutions much more in line with his first adventures.
Dividing the screen time of the new, child-like old friend in three ways: kicking and hitting him, marveling at the new and unknown world that opens before him and, for that matter, tasting the local food. So his three passions are completely satisfied in Dragon Ball Daima.
The not so good? Although Toei Animation takes advantage of the more than 20 minutes it has ahead of it as best it can to splash the screen with news, action and humor, in the end we find that when the next big step is going to be taken, it is postponed to next week . What is clear is that the direction in which episode 4 has left us is the right one and we are looking forward to seeing new troubles and even more characters.
What happened so far…
Goku has regained his youthful appearance! Gomah, the new regent of the Demon Kingdom decided to use the Earth’s Dragon Balls to annul those heroes who defeated the powerful Dabura and Majin Bu himself. However, these magical spheres that are capable of fulfilling any wish use white magic, so they cannot annihilate them. Faced with these, Gomah turns them into children again and takes Dende, the protective god of the Dragon Balls, to his world.
It would be unfair to say that Goku’s priority is to return to his adult appearance, but he is fully aware of three things: Dende must be rescued, new challenges and adventures lie ahead, and it is not possible to reach the Demon Realm simply by traveling. with a spaceship. Luckily for him and his friends, a mysterious demon named Glorio offers to take him and Kaio Shin, the supreme deity of the universe, on his ship.
In the demon world you can’t let your guard down!
Goku’s first contact with the Demon Kingdom was, to say the least, particular. He loves that the food there is so tasty, but it is annoying that because of a harmless gas his mobility and strength are so limited, so he has to get used to both his new body and the conditions. However, it won’t take long for him to start getting into the mood: many of the inhabitants of that world are hostile towards foreigners, and that will be the perfect excuse to unleash his repertoire of blows and techniques.
Unfortunately, after one of these battles Goku and his traveling companions find that the defeated demons decided to take revenge by taking the ship in which they were traveling, so now both he and Kaio Shin and Glorio must walk towards their destination. Walking. With the air so dense that there is, they will soon become exhausted and it is not convenient for them since the path is full of dangers. And not only for them.
After refueling and discovering several of the wonders of the demon world, including some strange insects with healing properties, the travelers end up arriving in a small town that is suffering the consequences of the change of regime: the new king Gomah has raised the offerings that do the devil and those who do not comply with the new prices in gold coins will have to pay – literally – with their years of life.
Faced with this, Goku will not sit idly by. And he is not the only one. Out of nowhere a mysterious hooded silhouette appears and confronts Gomah’s royal guard using homemade wasabi bombs and electroshock weapons. Hero, villain or neither? What is clear is that he shares the same justice spirit as our protagonist.
Daima Encyclopedia: the Dragon Balls of the Demon Realm
In our critique of the previous chapter we talked from the Demon Realm and now we are going to address another of the central aspects of this series and the universe created by Akira Toriyama: the original Dragon Balls. Not those on planet Earth or those that we could see on Namek, mind you, but the first ones that were created.
Created by the Namekian Neva(whose race is originally from the Kingdom of Demons) the original Dragon Balls are only three, they use a much more powerful magic than the known ones, which use white magic, which means that they are capable of making darker and darker wishes. twisted Which is somewhat paradoxical since everyone knows exactly where they are. So, Why doesn’t anyone use them?
The original Dragon Balls are only three and they use much more powerful magic than the known ones.
When Neva created the Dragon Balls of the Demon Realm also shaped the three Tamagamithe protectors of each of them. Three entities so powerful that they intimidate even the most powerful demons of the three worlds, so it is said that no one has been able to gather them and make a wish in thousands of years. Logically, little Goku is excited about the idea of facing them.
At the moment we do not know the extent of the Tamagami’s strength or if each one has their own name, but it is assumed that the strength of each one is above that of Dabra and, by extension, that of a Super Saiyan. And, from what has been shown, it seems that the color of each Tamagami corresponds to the sky of each of the Three Demon Worlds.
- Thus, we know that el primer Tamagami He has a kind of reddish skin (like the sky of the first demonic world in which Gomah lives) and carries a huge sword with a serrated edge and, in addition, he wears a kind of brooch on his abdomen that represents the Dragon Ball of a star that protects .
- The second Tamagami It is greenish in color (the predominant color of the second demonic world) and carries a very long trident. He looks a little thinner than the first and he has the two-star Dragon Ball emblem that he protects in the middle of his chest and he seems very used to fighting underwater.
- The third and last Tamagami known is purple like the sky of the third demonic world in which Goku and his friends find themselves. His weapon is a colossal hammer and he is much larger than the other two, although he also wears the three-star Dragon Ball emblem in the middle of his chest like the Tamagami of the second world.
For now we do not know what form the sacred dragon of the Demon Kingdom will have, but the truth is that it is not the first time that we come across less than seven Dragon Balls: in the manga of Dragon Ball Super It has been seen throughout the Granolah saga that an old Namekian created his own spheres, there being only two of them and the approximate size of dice. However, we expect that it will be a matter of time before Goku will have to face them. And that will make your adventure even more interesting.
