A week after the release, Elex 2 has its first patch: According to the developer, Update 1 fixes Piranha Bytes especially graphic errors and reduces screen tearing on PC and PS4/PS5. The download (size 2.9 gigabytes) takes place automatically before the next game start on Steam or the console.
The patch is particularly important for all owners of a Graphics card with AMD’s Vega chipset. Because Elex 2 could not be played on these computers until now, only the skybox was displayed. This, together with some flickering and disappearing objects in the game, meant that we had to lower our rating afterwards:

We also summarize the playful qualities (and problems) of the open-world role-playing game for you in the test video:

Elex 2: Patch 1 – What does the update change?
The patch notes are short and sweet:
- Fixed issues with certain graphics cards (especially Vega chipsets)
- Fixed screen tearing issues
- Size of meshes (3D models) reduced
- Mesh cache size increased
- Fixed a bug that caused mesh cache to fragment over time
- Fixed bug related to controller support
- Fixed various minor bugs
What does that mean? A statement (which we requested) from publisher THQ Nordic is still pending, but the changes to the meshes and cache should benefit Elex 2’s performance. They should also alleviate the problem of the body parts of the 3D models being faded in and out in cutscenes and during gameplay.
If you’ve been waiting for the patch to really get started with Elex 2, then we recommend you either take a look at our special issue or the many online guides for Elex 2 at GameStar. What’s next?
Developer Piranha Bytes continues to work on the game; According to THQ Nordic, new patches for Elex 2 should follow “as soon as possible”. If you notice bugs or problems, you can fix them report directly to the programmers.
We’ll update this news with an official statement on the mesh changes as soon as we have it. Until then, we ask you: Have you noticed any changes with the patch? How is Elex 2 going for you guys with the first update?
