The first trailer for Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu has finally been released, and it looks like a true throwback to early 20th century horror films.
Eggers, best known for directing 2015’s The Witches and 2019’s The Lighthouse, has been remaking the 1922 horror classic Nosferatu since around 2015, and yesterday, after a few twists and turns, the first trailer for the film was finally released. The film has a pretty strong cast, with Eggers once again teaming up with Willem Dafoe, who plays the titular Professor Albin Eberhard von Franz, which is a very catchy title. Starring Lily-Rose Depp as Ellen Hart, the titular vampire who is clearly obsessed with her, and The Menu’s Nicholas Hoult as her husband, Thomas Hart, a real estate agent whose latest client also happens to be the famous, centuries-old vampire.
The title character is regular Bill Skarsgård, who you’ll see as Pennywise the Clown in the modern-day IT and will be starring in the upcoming (and controversial) remake of The Crow. Other big names in the cast include Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick-Ass), Ralph Ineson (Final Fantasy 16), and Emma Corrin (Deadpool vs. Wolverine). The official synopsis for the film explains that it’s a “gothic tale of an obsession between a troubled young woman and the terrifying vampire who becomes obsessed with her, leading to unspeakable horrors,” which certainly sounds like a horror movie straight out of the early 20th century.

The film was originally planned to star Eggers’ Anya Taylor-Joy, who recently starred in the pretty good film Furiosa, as recurring co-star, and One Direction band member and now solo artist Harry Styles as Ellen and Thomas Hutter, but scheduling conflicts forced both to drop out of filming.
Those looking forward to watching Nosferatu may have to wait a while as it doesn’t come out until Christmas, and it’s clearly a film perfect for the season.
