The first trailer for Ryan Coogler’s supernatural period horror The Sinner gives us enough scares without even showing what that is

First trailer for the film starring Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan sinner Here it is, though it is light on detail, it is full of horror.

We’ve been hearing bits and pieces about Black Panther director Ryan Coogler’s next project since the beginning of the year, but everything has been a bit “speculated” so far. Warner Bros. finally released the first trailer for the film today, and while it doesn’t really clear things up, the feeling is so strong that I don’t care right now. The trailer’s description briefly explains the plot: “Twin brothers (Jordan) try to escape their troubled lives and return to their hometown to start over, only to find that a greater evil is waiting for their return.”

The trailer itself confirms that the film is a period piece, set in the 1930s American South, with the trailer and description hinting at something more supernatural going on, but never directly showing us what that is. It’s pretty much the gold standard for trailers, packing a lot of punch in just two minutes. In addition to Jordan, the rest of the cast seems equally strong, including Hailee Steinfeld (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse), Jack O’Connell (Ferrari), Wummi Mosaku (Passengers), Jamie Lawson (The Queen), Omar Benson Miller (True Lies), and Deroy Lindo (Da 5 Bloods).

The film is currently scheduled to be released on March 7 next year, and it will be Coogler’s first film since Black Panther: Wakanda Forever in 2022. The film received five Oscar nominations, including one for its lead actress Angela Bassett, who won the Best Supporting Actress award, becoming the first actor to win the award in the category. This is also the fifth time Coogler has worked with Jordan, who starred in all four of the director’s previous films, so I expect both of them to have strong performances in The Sinner.
