first trailer Tetris The movie is here, let’s see the really crazy story behind the origin of Tetris.
When I first heard there was going to be a Tetris movie, I thought, “Video game adaptation is too much.” Obviously, a game adaptation is out of the question, but the story behind how Tetris became a blockbuster story is impossible. That’s exactly what Apple TV+ exclusive Tetris is all about, about Hank Rogers and Tetris creator Alexei Parr who “risked their lives to outwit the KGB and make Tetris a global sensation.” Events between Kitnov.
The film, which opens March 31, stars Kingsman’s Taron Egerton as Rogers and Nikita Efremov as Pajitnov. Set in 1988, Rogers discovered Tetris and allegedly risked his life on a trip to the Soviet Union (as it was then known). Honestly, I didn’t expect a film like this to look as good as it does. The reverence for the game is warranted, but it clearly doesn’t take itself completely seriously.
Tetris (the movie) follows Rogers’ journey to the Soviet Union in a quest to acquire the rights to Tetris, a very worthwhile thing to do when the transcontinental country is not on friendly terms with the United States. Still, we all know Tetris ended up on the Game Boy, so it’ll be interesting to see how that goes.
One of the more surprising aspects of Tetris’ history is that intellectual property didn’t exist in the USSR, so releasing the game was no easy feat. It did receive a PC version before it was released on the Game Boy, but apparently the latter is a nostalgic memory for many.
You can watch Tetris when it comes to Apple TV+ on March 31st.
