Marvel has finally released the first trailer for Thunderbolts*, giving you a chance to play “Wait, what MCU movie are they in?”
While I’m sure some of you have seen the leaks for Thunderbolt* that came out at D23 earlier this year, I imagine there are enough of you who have been waiting for the official trailer to be released, and if that’s you, then today is your day. Marvel has finally released the first trailer for the new superhero film, but despite its name, it’s actually quite long. Florence Pugh returns as Yelena Belova from 2021’s Black Widow, and it looks like she’ll be the star of the film.
Several other returning faces also return, such as Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnas, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost (last seen in Ant-Man and the Wasp), Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (both from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier), David Harbour as Red Guardian, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster (both from Black Widow), Harrison Ford as Thaddeus “Thunder” Ross (previously played by William Hurt, who took over the role in Captain America: Brave New World), and some newcomers, such as Lewis Pullman as “Bob” and Geraldine Viswanathan as de Fontaine’s assistant, Mel.
Of course, you might be wondering, what are these somewhat random characters mixed together for? Well, it’s not particularly clear at this point, but the gist is that they’re a group of anti-heroes sent on a mission by the government. Presumably it’s a little more complicated than that, and hopefully the movie will expand on the role of the asterisk in the title (no, that’s not a typo).
Thunderbolts* was originally scheduled to be released on May 2, 2025, and the movie’s website still says so, but the trailer is a little vague, only saying May 2025, so the movie’s release date may have changed slightly. Regardless, you can probably see the movie in May – if Marvel’s use of a bunch of B-list stars appeals to you.
