Since the first broadcast, the Game Awards at the end of the year have blossomed into one of the most important game events of all. This is also reflected in the audience figures, which have set new records year after year – again this time!
Geoff Keighley, moderator and organizer of The Game Awards, should be satisfied with the edition this year again. The event was once again able to shine with numerous new announcements and world premieres – and in the end it also attracted spectators in droves.
As the game journalist has now announced, The Game Awards in 2021 once again advanced to the new record holder in terms of viewership – as did the latest editions on a regular basis. This year, after a completely digital broadcast in 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a more traditional format could be used again.
According to Keighley, The Game Awards 2021 ultimately wowed so many viewers that it was enough for an incredible 85 million live streams. Compared to the already very successful previous year, this is again a growth of 2 percent; at that time, 83 million interested people tuned in via stream.
The time spent watching on YouTube also set a new record at 1.75 million hours. Furthermore, with 1.6 million tweets on Twitter and 23.2 million votes cast in the selection process, new records were achieved in the history of The Game Awards.
It remains to be seen whether The Game Awards 2022 can go a step further next December.
