Who didn’t want that? yourself in Modern Warfare 2 just sneak over the map unnoticed by the ubiquitous UAV drones and radar devices and eliminate enemies like a ghost? The Ghost Perk is intended to enable exactly that and hides you from enemy reconnaissance measures. In theory. But a YouTube video wants to prove that this ability sometimes fails.
Does the ghost perk work?
According to the perk’s description, when active, you should be undetectable to UAV drones, wearable radars, and heartbeat sensors. So you should never appear as a red dot on the minimap if the opponent uses such devices, no exceptions are mentioned. A powerful ability that takes a few minutes to activate as an Ultimate Perk.
But the well-known YouTuber jackfrags, who mainly produces videos about Call of Duty and Battlefield, now shows that the perk doesn’t always seem to work after all:

Apparently, when you fire a weapon – even a silenced one – you appear on the opposing minimap despite an active Ghost Perk. So if you’re in range of a UAV drone, handheld radar, or heartbeat sensor, Ghost won’t do you much good in that case. If an advanced drone is in the air, you will be displayed on the minimap even without firing your weapon, despite the perk.
Is that a bug now? There’s no definitive answer to that question, but we’re inclined to agree with the YouTuber: Since you’re on the radar for all three devices, this behavior may be intentional on the part of the developers. It is more likely that the description of the perk is inaccurate and gives misconceptions.
What good does the Ghost Perk do then? The perk still brings you advantages. In contrast to players without a perk, you will not be detected by UAV drones and other devices unless you fire your weapon. This can be beneficial for flanking maneuvers to get behind enemy lines undetected. In the case of the advanced UAV drone, only your last known position is displayed with each ping, while players without a perk are visible on the minimap in real time.
By the way, you can unlock the Ghost perk when you reach player level 52, or use it at level 4 as part of a perk pack. In our guide, we explain how you can quickly increase your level. The overview of all perks and streaks in Modern Warfare 2 can be found here:
