If you’ve always wanted to play the original ’90s game that kicked off the Resident Evil series and gave us a live-action introduction to the era that was as fun as playing basketball with peak Michael Jordan while listening to Aqua’s Barbie, then you’re in luck.

A PC port of the original Resi from 1996, the game has long been hard to get in a format easily playable on modern PCs, and it’s not available on Steam, but now Capcom and a store specializing in classic games have brought it back to the market.

From today, you can find the original PC version of Resident Evil on GOG.com for £8.99/$9.99. While it has been updated to ensure compatibility with Windows 10 and 11, which many PCs use today, unless you’re a clever person who prefers Linux or something, the tweaks GOG has made are designed to be fairly minor – meaning you’re not getting a remaster that changes drastically from the original experience.

As such, tweaks are limited to adding new rendering options, improving the timing of cutscenes, and fully supporting modern controllers (i.e. any PlayStation and Xbox controllers you might own, for things you don’t like operating with a mouse and keyboard).

If that wasn’t enough, you can also pick up the original PC versions of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 through the store until the end of 2024, and if you’re so inclined, a bundle containing all three is already available to pre-order for £20.99/$24.99.

If you finish watching the first Resi at twice the speed, GOG will also upload the introduction to the classic live-action version to YouTube, so you can watch it every day until the second and third parts are released. As you can see in the picture above, the episode is less than four minutes long, so according to my calculations, if you want to watch it all in a row, you can watch it 15 times in an hour. If you watch it in 24 hours, that’s 360 times. I know I will.

Now that GOG has made the original Resi accessible, are you planning on playing the original Resi on PC? Let us know below!
