News culture “The greatest action scene I’ve ever done” Ridley Scott didn’t do things by halves in Gladiator 2
More than three months before the release of Gladiator 2, Ridley Scott is making a big announcement: for this film, he has directed the biggest scene he has ever shot. A fascinating statement when you know the filmmaker’s career.
“The best action sequence I’ve ever done”
Gladiator 2 is the most anticipated blockbuster for late 2024. More than twenty years after the release of the original film Ridley Scott returns to the time of ancient Rome to describe the adventures of a gladiator in the Colosseum
A classic story like the first, but in which we also find big names from Hollywood like Denzel Washington or Pedro Pascal. And obviously that is not the only element that Ridley Scott saw as big. In an interview with the magazine Rich, Ridley Scott has made a big announcement about Gladiator 2 :
The film opens with probably the greatest action sequence I’ve ever shot. Probably bigger than anything in Napoleon.
A big statement, because In his previous film Napoléon we were able to continue six battle sequenceswhich is impressive for a director who is now 86 years old.

“Computerization and AI must be accepted”
But what could make this sequence so impressive? Many think of a scene already mentioned in the past, in which Lucius enters the Colosseum to face a rhinoceros, no less. From a technical point of view, the scene required building the beast in real life rather than creating a trained animal. As a result, Paul Mescal had to face an all-plastic rhinoceros with eight wheels that was digitally remote-controlled. The actor even landed on the creature’s back, which promises to be a great spectacle sequenceFor Ridley Scott, however, this required the use of cutting-edge technology, which did not bother him at all. He explains:
Computerization and AI must be embraced. I can have a computer read every molecule and fold of a rhinoceros and then cut them out on a piece of thick plastic, just like the body of a rhinoceros, which is then cut to the shape of a skeleton.
From now on we can’t wait to see the final result Gladiator 2 is scheduled for November 13th in dark rooms.
