The Microsoft Store is getting a new feature that should make it easier for you to get all your apps and applications back on your PC after reinstalling the operating system. In the future, you will no longer have to write down or take screenshots of which apps you currently have installed and would like to reinstall after the new installation or on the new computer.
The feature, along with other innovations, was introduced to the Microsoft Store in the Windows Developer Blog presented. It’s called restore apps
And the name is program. If you set up a new Windows 11 PC and log in with your Windows account, the feature will automatically download any apps you had previously installed on your old PC.
The prerequisite is, of course, that these are apps from the Microsoft Store. Programs from other sources cannot automatically restore the feature. You should also be able to exclude apps from the restore in your library if you no longer want them on the new system. It will look like that:
More changes for the store
Another useful feature for you is the integration of the store into the search bar in the start menu. In the future, you should also be able to search for apps that are in the Windows Store and then install them directly from the start menu. Microsoft wants to dovetail the new operating system even more closely with the store.
There should be more changes, but they should primarily help developers. Microsoft is working on a so-called pop-up store and store badges. These features should allow developers to advertise their app directly on websites and link it to the Microsoft Store using simple means.
When exactly the features should come is not yet known. The company wants to test them in the Microsoft Insider program before they make their way to the live version.
