Yes, folks, you can finally start counting down the days until the next Witcher game, with CD Projekt Red’s production finally starting.
Now, don't get too excited, as it's almost certainly still a few years away, but those desperate for a Witcher update finally have an interesting update: the director of the next Witcher game has confirmed that production on Project Polaris has begun (The code name for the next entry in the popular RPG series). “I'm pleased to announce that Project Polaris has entered full production!” Sebastian Kalumba wrote on his personal Twitter account. “New challenges are coming, and the talented, hard-working people make me believe that together we can make the upcoming Witcher Legends an extraordinary experience. Don't stop now! Stay tuned for the other side of the coin!”

The last row refers to the photo paired with the tweet, which you can see above shows several coins lying on a stone floor. Obviously, if production on the game has just begun, we'll still be a few years away from actually being able to play it. How many years? Don't ask me! It's not the most foggy yet, but I'll be praying for all The Witcher fans that at least sometime this decade (we're still about five years away from the next season, but we all remember what happened) to The Witcher Cyberpunk 2077″, isn't it).

One important thing to note about this upcoming sequel is that it seems unlikely to be The Witcher 4 at all. It'll be a full ten years since The Witcher 3 came out next year, and with games taking so long to develop, many games are designed to welcome new players even if they're sequels (just look at The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Realm, which Breath of the Wild is rarely mentioned).
Geralt's own voice even stated that the next installment has nothing to do with the series' main protagonist, although he doesn't know who that might be. When the sequel was revealed, it even stated that it was the beginning of a new saga, so it's safe to say it will more or less be a fresh start. I'm sure we'll find out more when CD Projekt Red is ready to reveal more.
